The
Area
The bay of Chrysochou has been the site of two ancient
kingdoms, Marion and Arsinoe. Today, the reminents of
these ancient kingdoms can be seen everywhere and extensive
archeological work takes place in the vicinity. The culture
of the people has been affected by their heritage and
visitors can easily perceive the pride in them. Even though,
for many years this area was quite secluded it is quickly
developing into one of the prettiest destinations in the
Eastern Mediterranean. One should point out, though that
government regulations are quite strict and buildings
are kept low rise and in harmony with the natural beauty
of the area.
Visitors
in the area will enjoy the beautiful and unspoiled almond
and olive tree covered hills scattered with traditional
villages, and the beautiful unspoiled beaches. The area
is situated on the Northwest corner of the island, between
the Akamas peninsula and Paphos forest and is the right
choice for nature lovers and socialites alike.
The excellent
Cypriot climate, of about 340 days of sunshine every year,
combined with the well known hospitality of its people,
makes Polis an excellent destination for a relaxing holiday.
And for the more energetic visitor, cycling, hiking, bird
watching, and studying the rich wild life and vegetation
of the area, are only a few of the activities one can
engage in, along with swimming, scuba diving and all sorts
of water sports.
